Walk to better know London

Sometimes it doesn’t take much to do something cool.

What I am going to say is not specifically addressed to tourists but to everyone.

Few months ago I read that people need to walk at least 10,000 steps a day to feel better and lose weight (in conjunction with a balanced diet of course). Since the I have been monitoring a step counter app on my phone and walked. I started getting off few stations earlier on my commuting to work and same on my way back home. I easily reached the target.

What I have done this morning was getting off at Cannon Street station and walk towards Tottenham Court Road. I could actually take different streets and road to make the journey better and I ended up passing by popular landmarks like St. Paul’s Cathedral but also unexpected discovery like the Church of Scientology.

What I am suggesting to Londoners and tourists is simple and doesn’t require anything huge: just walk. Walk to get to/from your destination, avoid popular road but go via unknown streets. You can discover so much and learn about the city much better.

As a professor at school used to say: to know a city, you need to get lost in it!
